Overrepresentation analysis of inferred Ligand – receptor pairs between JAR cells and immune receptors unveil a role of polymorphonuclear leukocytes in delaying xenograft rejection

Pregnancy is a Hallmark state of acquired immune tolerance for humans. Proteins secreted from the placenta have shown to be crucial in the modulation of pregnancy.

Determining the ligand – receptor interactions that could exist between the mother immune system and the trophoblasts of the placenta could led us to the understanding of the mechanisms that orchestrate immune tolerance. In this study, an over-representation analysis of all the possible interactions between proteins secreted by JAR cells, a trophoblast model, and cell receptors of the immune system was performed unveiling a possible role for polymorphonuclear leukocytes in delaying xenograft rejection.
